More Reasons be a "Locavore"

While surfing the web, I came across this interesting page.  Ten compelling reasons to buy local!

In his book Eat Here, Reclaiming Homegrown Pleasures in a Global Supermarket, Brian Halweil points out that local crops bring more dollars to the local economy than imported crops, stating:

I tried something Oprah likes

I just tried something that Oprah has been raving about:  Popchips.  Guess what?  They're a California product!  Now that I am more aware of the local movement, I check the packages for an address.  If it's from California, I feel great about my choice.  These chips are a healthy alternative to the others and I think they taste even better!  If you live in San Marcos, you can find them at CVS (of all places!) on San Marcos Boulevard or Ralphs on Twin Oaks.  If you live somewhere else in California, go to the website and use their locator.

Long Trip vs Short Trip

Why not local AND organic?

I agree! Buy local produce! It just makes sense: Lower cost of transportation, fresher tastier fruits & veggies, and OUR state benefits from the tax revenue. Who DOESN'T want more money going to our schools, fire departments and police force? Not to mention all the jobs that we would keep or add if more Californians get on board!

Why not also buy organic? I want to reward the local farmers who don't use pesticides and preservatives by purchasing the healthier, yummier organic foods. I also want to support the California dairy farmers who DON'T inject their cows full of drugs that get transferred to the milk we drink, and DO allow their cows to graze.
